Component Properties

Published: 2022-10-19      Revised: 2026-08-28

While a small number of these properties are required fields (denoted with *), you can customize your database by hiding properties that will not be used.

Your database will operate faster in some circumstances after hiding any properties you are not using. Of course, you can always put them back in the future, if needed.

To customize this aspect of your database, please reach out to our Support Team to get started. In the issue notes, just tell us which properties you want to hide or display.

There are two categories of properties:

Main Properties List

PropertyDefinition
AreaGeographical area designed as a part of a LUnit for helping group or locate components.
BarcodeComponent has a barcode tag.
Batch GroupField for tracking when a component is a part of a batch process.
Battery LimitYES / NO field to indicate if a component is within a battery limit.
BuildingUsed for identifying a component with a specific building.
Cancel DTM FrequencyChecking this box will classify a DTM as an fDTM. This would be done when a particular LUnit or Process Unit has more DTMs (as a % of all valves) than the regulations allow. This will cause the DTM to be monitored at the base frequency of the component rather than on an annual basis. See the DTM article for more information.
Confined SpaceLocated in a confined space and requires a special permit.
Custom Field 1-5Before using one of these custom fields, please contact our Support Team. We will work to help you avoid it!
CVSClosed Vent System. A system is not open to the atmosphere and is composed of hard-piping, ductwork, connections, and, if necessary, flow-inducing devices that transport gas or vapor from a piece(s) of equipment to a control device, or back to a process.
Date AddedThe date the component was added to the database and made Active.
DepartmentUsed for identifying a component with a specific department.
DrawingUsed for identifying a Component with a specific Drawing.
DTMElevated component considered Difficult to Monitor.
DTM HowThe specific method for getting to this DTM, such as Ladder, Manlift, Scaffolding, etc.
DTM WhyThe specific regulatory approved reason why a component is marked as a DTM.
EP NumberEPN Reference Number.
Extra SeamsIndicates there is/are more than one seam on a component requiring special attention from the monitoring technicians and should trigger an additional seam for the purpose of calculations emissions. For instance, if you record a compressor as having 1 extra seam, then the technician can be told that in Chateau Mobile, and when the emission calculations are done, Chateau will add the extra emission for the additional seam.
FacilityThe highest level of component classification. Multiple Facilities can be created in one instance of Chateau. Plants are nested within each facility. Most databases will have one facility.
FINFacility Identification Number (see Emissions Calculations for full description)
FlagIf this component was tagged in a SmartFlag project, you can reference the flag number here. Note: SmartFlags was discontinued on 10/8/2025 and is no longer a supported feature. See Add Via Photo.
FloorUse for identifying a component with a specific floor.
InsulationDescribes the nature of any insulation which might be present on a component. The values relevant to your program should be loaded into the Insulation picklist in Settings / Picklists / Category = Component.
IsolatableYES / NO field to indicate if a component is capable of being isolated from VOC service.
Isolatable SourceText field for documenting the person who provided the information on which isolated field was populated.
Latitude/LongitudeChateau collects the GPS coordinates from inspections performed on this component and uses them for the latitude and longitude data. Each new inspection's coordinates will be averaged with all previously-recorded coordinates so the latitude and longitude will gradually be as accurate as possible. In order to filter out grossly-inaccurate coordinates, if the coordinate for any inspection is greater than one standard deviation from the existing average, it will not be factored in. In cases where a significant amount of inspection coordinates are incorrect, our support team can wipe the past coordinates so you can start over.
LevelUsed for identifying a component with a specific level.
Location DescriptionText field describing the precise location and identification of each component.
LowE DetailField for tracking a customizable list of Low Emissions properties. Develop this list in Settings / Picklists / Category = Component.
LowE RequiredYES / NO field to indicate if a component is subject to Low Emissions requirements.
LUnit*Stands for Location Unit. This is the basic identification level for all components identifying where it's located. Essentially, it tells the technician where to get a safety permit to enter the LUnit. It is possible all LUnits can be nested in a single plant within a single facility. In many cases, the LUnit will be the same as the Process Unit. But in other—important cases—the two different properties may need to be tracked differently. A tank (in a tank field), for instance, may be assigned to the LUnit named "Tank Field," but also assigned to the Process Unit where the material in the tank was produced. In most cases though, both are the same. See Process Unit for more details.
MMQ GroupFor MMQ frequency components on the final phase of MMQ, this indicates which month of the quarter the component will be scheduled for monitoring. This is a customizable component property.
MMQ PhaseIndicates the current phase of component with an MMQ frequency. M1/Q1 for the first month/quarter of the phase, M2/Q2 for the second month/quarter, and MMQ for when no leaks happened in the first two periods and the components is now on quarterly/annual.
NDEAn item is classified as having been built to the standard of Non-Detectible Emissions.
OGI Site IdentifierYES / NO field indicating if a component is being used as an OGI Site Identifier for image confirmation purposes.
P&IDFor recording the P&ID number with which a component is associated.
Permit GroupUsed for identifying a component with a specific Permit Group.
Physical State*Light Liquid (LL), Gas/Vapor (GV), or Heavy Liquid (HL).
Piping SegmentUsed for identifying a component with a specific Piping Segment.
PlantMultiple plants can be nested into any facility. You will then nest any number of LUnits within any plant. It is possible you will have one or more plants.
POELYES / NO: Indicates if a component is a Potential Open-Ended Line. This field will enable you to quickly build a tour to perform a field audit of all your POELs.
Profile*Identifies the current operating status of the component: Active, DeActivated, ReAct, TUinService, TUPurged. This list cannot be edited.
Process SectionUsed for identifying a component with a specific Process Section. This field is useful if you have a specific group of components covered by a special permit.
Process UnitAllows you to sort, track, manage and report components by Process Units, which may be different from LUnits (used for Locational purposes). For instance, report components from the originating LUnit to Tank Farm and Storage, you can use this field. See LUnit for more details.
RENReference Equipment Number: ID of a major piece of equipment used to group and sort components for identification and route sequencing purposes.
Route SequenceNumeric sequence applied to all components indicating the physical order in which the technician should monitor them. In a Tour in Chateau Mobile, the components will normally be sorted according to the Route Sequence in ascending order. If the components have no Route Sequences, they will appear in random orders in Tours. If you would rather use the Tag Number sequence to sort the components in the Tours, then go to Settings / Miscellaneous and enable Sort Tours by LUnit then Tag (not Route Sequence). If you do not have Route Sequences already, here are your options: Use the Modify Route Sequence feature to set the preferred route sequence. Go to Settings / Miscellaneous and enable Sort Tours by LUnit then Tag (not Route Sequence) if your tag numbers resemble the order in which you want them inspected. If you have an upcoming data remediation project, update the Route Sequences in Add Via Photo.
Safety EquipmentUsed for specifying safety equipment that might be required for monitoring a component. Develop this list in Settings / Picklists / Category = Component. A component can carry more than one Safety Equipment value at a time.
SizeThe physical dimension indicating a characteristic of a component expressed in inches or a fraction thereof. This will dictate the minimum M21 monitoring time, assuming the Inspection Sample Times are set up.
Skip PhaseIndicates the current phase of a component on a skip-period program. M1 for the first period, M2 for the second, and Skip once the component qualifies to skip. Chateau re-evaluates these when rules run, so an expired skip phase is reset automatically.
StreamIdentifies the process stream the component is in contact with.
StructureUsed for identifying a component with a specific structure.
Sub-AreaGeographical area designed as a part of an area for helping group or locate components.
SubRENLocational modifier for a REN, such as level or compass direction, enabling the grouping of all components North of a REN, or on the top of a REN together.
SubSubTypeA more precise component identification type involving a breakdown within the SubType category. For example, Orifice, Blind, Freestanding, and Valve End are SubSubTypes of the Connector SubType of Flange.
SubTypeSpecial types of certain kinds of components. Check valve and block valve are SubTypes of valves. Flange and threaded are SubTypes of connectors. Canned or diaphragm are SubTypes of pump.
Tag*In Chateau, the tags can consist of numbers, letters, special characters, or any combination thereof. Also, you do not have to use padded zeros. Chateau recognizes tags with decimal numbers (e.g., 1.001, 1.002, 1.003) as Subtags of the corresponding whole number (e.g., 1), but does not recognize lettered tags (e.g., 1a, 1b, 1c) as Subtags.
Type*Component Type, such as Valve, Connectors, Pump, etc.
UTMUnsafe to Monitor.
UTM WhyIndicates why a component has been classified as UTM.
Work ScheduledIndicates a month in which a component is preferred to be monitored that is more specific than the regulatory schedule requirement. See the Work Schedule article for more details.

Custom Properties

If the properties currently available in your database do not meet your specific needs, please contact our Support Team to request the addition of custom properties. When submitting your request, be sure to include the following details:

  • The name of the property
  • Whether it should be a text field, or a Yes/No field
  • Whether it should be added to the Main Properties list, or the Exemption Fields

Example: If you would like to add "Welded" as a property to exempt a component from monitoring, please let us know "Welded" should be a Yes/No field under the Exemption Fields.

Once we confirm the property has been added, don't forget to update the Chateau Mobile fields to ensure the new property appears on your technician's handheld devices.

Note: the five built-in Custom Field 1–5 properties do appear in the Query Builder like any other property. A bespoke property added for you by Support is different — it will not appear there, so plan to filter on it through an export rather than a saved query.

Why a property may be missing from the Query Builder. The Query Builder lists only the properties whose picklist actually holds values on your database. A property with an empty picklist is hidden until values are added, so two databases can legitimately offer different criteria lists. If a property you expect is not in the Select Criteria… list, check Settings / Picklists for that property first.

Which operators a property offers. The operator box changes with the kind of property, so you will not see the same choices on every row of a query:

Kind of propertyExamplesOperators offered
Text, and single-select listsLocation Description, Physical State, TypeEquals, Not Equals, Like, Not Like
Numbers (whole or decimal), and datesRoute Sequence, Latitude, Date AddedEquals, Not Equals, Greater Than, Greater Than Or Equals, Less Than, Less Than Or Equals
TagTagAll four text operators, all four comparisons, plus Between
Multi-select listsSafety EquipmentIncludes, Includes All, Excludes, Like, Not Like
Yes/NoSealless, Vacuum, High PressureNo operator box — pick the Yes or No radio button

Two consequences worth knowing. Number and date properties do not offer Like or Not Like, so to search a range you add the same property twice — one row Greater Than the low value, a second row Less Than Or Equals the high value. Between is offered on Tag only.
